BUILDING BRIDGES 2022

Dear AE Members and Guests:
As hosts of the 33rd Annual Conference of Academia Europaea (AE), Building Bridges 2022, the Barcelona Knowledge Hub of Academia Europaea (AE-BKH) is pleased to welcome you to the conference website.
The 2022 meeting will be held at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) on October 26 and 27, 2022.
It will be open to all AE Members (from all years), to members of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE) and to people interested in following the present and near-future trends of science in Europe.
The Building Bridges 2022 plenary programme includes renowned international scholars, speaking in sessions covering a range of hot topics in science policy. These include; “Science policy for the future”, “Towards an inclusive and representative academic landscape”, “Asking more for research”, “Environment and sustainability” and “Frontiers of science”.
In addition, Highlights include; Prof. Philippe Aghion, Collège de France, the London School of Economics, and the INSEAD Business School, who will receive the 2021 Erasmus Medal and deliver the 2022 Heinz-Nixdorf Erasmus Lecture. Prof. Gergely Toldi, University of Auckland, who will receive the André Mischke Prize of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE), and Prof. Sierd Cloetingh, Utrecht University, and past president of AE, who will receive the Academy’s Gold Award.
The last session of Building Bridges 2022 meeting will be the major public presentation to Prof. Nancy Cartwright, University of Durham, of the 3rd Barcelona Hypatia European Science Prize. This prize is awarded by the Barcelona City Council, in collaboration with the Barcelona Knowledge Hub of the AE.
Class meetings: Class A1 (Humanities), Class A2 (Social and Related Sciences) and Class B (Exact Sciences) will hold parallel sessions for members of these classes during the morning of October 26. The cost of attending those sessions (Classes A1, A2 and B) is included in the registration fees of Building Bridges 2022.
On October 25, Class C will hold an all-day, pre-plenary event in the PRBB. There is an additional registration fee for this special meeting.
All participants must register and pay the corresponding fee.
The President’s Dinner. During the evening of October 26, a dinner will be organised in a restaurant in the centre of Barcelona. People wishing to attend it must register and pay a separate fee for the dinner. There is a strict numbers limit, so first come-first served.
Finally, please note that Manners Conferences & Events Barcelona, our local professional conference organiser (PCO) from previous Building Bridges conferences, will be managing all logistic and administrative issues, including registration.
